Jamui is a historically significant district situated in the southern part of Bihar, India. It was established as a separate district on 21 February 1991 after its separation from Munger district. The district headquarters is located at Jamui town. It comprises 10 administrative blocks, including Jamui, Sikandra, Jhajha, Chakai, Khaira, Sono, Lakshmipur, Barhat, Gidhaur and Islamnagar Aliganj.

The district is administered by the District Magistrate, who oversees general administration, revenue, development activities and the implementation of government schemes. The Superintendent of Police heads the district police administration. The district also has a subdivision, revenue circles, Gram Panchayats and urban local bodies to ensure effective governance.

Jamui is renowned for its rich religious, historical and cultural heritage. Lachhuar Jain Temple and Kshatriya Kund are important pilgrimage destinations associated with Lord Mahavira. Giddheshwar Temple, Minto Tower at Gidhaur, Maa Kali Temple at Malaypur and Simultala are other notable attractions. Nagi and Nakti Bird Sanctuaries are significant for migratory birds and biodiversity.

Agriculture is a major source of livelihood for the population. The district’s hills, forests, rivers and water bodies contribute to its natural beauty and ecological importance. Jamui holds considerable potential for religious tourism, eco-tourism, rural development and improved digital governance, making it an important district of southern Bihar.
